Right now, we have two songs up that will be featured on the comp; "Order Form" by Shook Ones, originally on their 2007 split with Easel as well as an anthem for the Prop 8 debates last November, and we have "Pride" by Tampa Bay hardcore band Reveal The Truth. 2 New Releases, 2 New Reviews

It's been a while. I finally got the new Isis and the newest Baroness. ISIS - WAVERING RADIANT I've only had the chance to listen to it once through, but really enjoyed it. Same structure in writing, growling vocals matched with heavy guitars to clean and ambient, trancey sections. I saw them play this last summer with Pelican, they were flawless. I mean flawless. The production is amazing, the dynamics are outstanding and the progression of this band is something to admire. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARONESS - BLUE ALBUM What an awesome follow-up to the Red Album. I'm still not sure which one I prefer. Very interesting sounds on this one. The guitar tones are super fuzzed out and spacey. Something progressive on this album I've noticed is the use of acoustic guitars mixed in with distortion. Very similar style to Mastodon's "Crack The Skye" record that came out earlier this year. Who's he...

GRAILS - DOOMSDAYER'S HOLIDAY This album is in the running for best of the year. Very dark and richly layered. A great mix of styles from modern post-rock, fusion styles and middle eastern music. With this release Grails continues to carve out their own individual sound, showing us all that they are a serious force to be reckoned with. This also gives fans a breath of fresh air when it comes to the usual post-rock we have become so used to listening to. Although the music has a dark and minor tone to it throughout, Grails always has a way of filling the listener with constructive and encouraging mentalities.

The Cowsills - Best Of

Image
The Cowsills were a singing group from Newport, Rhode Island specializing in what would later be defined as bubblegum pop. The band was formed in the spring of 1965 by four brothers — Barry, Bill, Bob, and John Cowsill. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=73926d1b6653ad23d1014a7a667fa2b4e04e75f6e8ebb871

GHOST - HYPNOTIC UNDERWORLD

DL: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=73926d1b6653ad23d1014a7a667fa2b4e04e75f6e8ebb871 Japan's psych-folk-prog-rock band know for its eclectic instrumentation, melodic and improvisational skill. Their lineup has shifted considerably over the years. Most albums also feature lead guitarist Michio Kurihara, who has also done a lot of work with Boris. My favorite tracks: Hazy Paradise and Piper.

Spouse - Nozomi

SPOUSE - NOZOMI http://www.mediafire.com/?2ymy2rh05jm Well this album hits pretty close to home. Jose Ayerve (lead guitar/vocal), happens to be a great friend of my father. This album was playing in the background constantly throughout my childhood. I know practically every sound and guitar squeak on this one. I used to see Jose perform frequently in Portland, Maine. A frail voice at times, but a powerful presence. Spouse is now located in the Boston area and still continue to play live and release music. I had the honor of selling their merch @ The Empire club last January where they headlined a gig. More songs and show listings @: www.myspace.com/spouse For fans of groups like Swervedriver, The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Pavement. Certainly worth getting into. Let me know by commenting if you'd like to hear more Spouse, as I have another album of theirs.

Feels just like you're losing your mind...

Holy Sons - Decline Of The West Haunting, personal and incredibly intimate songwriting. Emil Amos brings forward another 15 songs filled with loads of layering and hypnotizing riffs matched with desperate on-edge vocals that make it seem as if Amos was having a mental breakdown in the midst of his recording sessions. With lines like "Creeping way down low, where nobody else goes, where no one came back alive. It feels just like you're losing your mind." and "Evil falling down from the sky, clouds parting, fingers pointing down again." Amos invites the listener into his eery and overly-imaginative world which is likely inspired by LSD flashbacks and insomnia. www.myspace.com/holysons His newest release is titled "Drifter's Sympathy" and is out on IMPORTANT RECORDS. Here's a video released for the track Ferel Kid . Holy Sons "The Feral Kid" from indie outlaw on Vimeo . Side Note: Amos plays drums in two current bands, Grails and O...
