Interview with Ryan O (Outbreak, Think Fast! Records)

Ryan O Interview. Got to shoot some Q&A's back and forth with old friend Ryan O'Connor. Best known for being vocalist of the hardcore band Outbreak, Ryan also runs his own record label Think Fast! Records that has been making a lot of moves lately. Enjoy it. APPROACHING OBLIVION/JAKE: When did you first got involved with hardcore? What made you want to get involved? RYAN O'CONNOR :
I was listening to hardcore and punk in the mid 90’s, when I was really young, but it wasn’t until the late 90’s that I actually became involved. My older brother, who’s actually spent time in and out of Outbreak over the years, was bringing home tapes, CDs, and vinyl for all of the early Victory Records bands - Earth Crisis, Strife, Integrity, Warzone. They were a good segway into other underground bands that I later discovered, like Minor Threat and Descendents. Before all of this I was always into heavy music, even as a really young kid. My brother and I usually shared a bedroom whe...

Greetings all - The Doldrums - Forced Existence 7" is now available in the Approaching Oblivion Webstore. The record came out in 2007 and the band is on indefinite hiatus - we've got about 30 copies ready to go. I'm printing new covers and finally giving this record the layout/production it always deserved. Vanishing Leper (Cold Vomit Records)

DFJ: We just released an LP on Cold Vomit. Definitely has some rocked out middle eastern influences (think Beatles Revolver era, George Harrison, Led Zep and early Doors) as well as some alternative and indie rock and pop thrown in there. Jordan Darby from Dry-Rot wrote the songs and did the guitars, sitar, bass and vocals while I played drums. Chris Corry recorded the drums, mixed the LP and played some guitar as well as writing the last song which is kind of a heavy improv jam, which borders more on the Randy Holden, Doors, Sabbath territory. It fits though. The way this project came together was pretty cool too because we have actually never jammed together as a band. Jordan lives out in California and sent me some mp3s of song ideas he had. I did my best to interpret the riffs he had and arrange song structures on drums. Once me and CC laid down the drums at the Paincave we sent Jordan the files and he put the music over it. I was pretty happy when I heard the finished product bec...

It's not pseudo-science! Sound waves effect your body and mind.

I study sound. It's what I'm enrolled in University for. Sound is a physical audible force that is caused by friction of air molecules. It has an attack (the birth of the sound), a sustain, a decay and a release (the death of a sound)...otherwise known as ASDR. Each sound wave has a wavelength. The wavelength is the horizontal distance between any two successive equivalent points on the wave. The frequency of a sound wave is measured in hertz. Hertz (Hz) indicate the number of cycles per second that the wave performs. The human ear typically hears sound ranging from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. It's said sound outside of that spectrum are more 'felt' than audible. It's fascinating to me. Before I ramble on way too much science mumbo jumbo - I'm going to get down to why I'm talking about all of this... It is my personal belief that certain frequencies of sound can open different energy fields in the body. This video is a sine wave (pure wave) of supposedly ...
