Baroness - Red Album

In Your Ear Records, Boston. + 2 Uploads.

Now that I'm in Boston I've had the chance to get to some record stores. I went into In Your Ear Records on Commonwealth Ave, about a 5 minute walk from my current apartment. Met the owner, Reid, and his employee Dave. We talked music for a while. Awesome store and cool staff. It reminds me of a larger scaled Dr.Records.

There were a few things that caught my eye, but since money is kind of tight I only left with 3 records:

Elvis Costello - Everyday I Write The Book, single (1983)
Focus - Moving Waves
Nova Mob - Admiral Of The Sea (feat. Grant Hart of Husker Du)

I feel the need to upload the Focus album, just because it is ridiculously awesome. So here are two albums. I've just discovered Yezda Urfa but have been listening to this Focus album for about a year now.

Yezda Urfa - Sacred Babboon (1988)

Complex compositions, fast pace, extremely intricate playing. A serious mind bender.
For fans of Yes, Gentle Giant, Focus, Camel and dare I say in a more modern sense, Mr.Bung…

Candlemass - Nightfall

The masters of epic doom metal.

Label: Metal Blade Records
Year: 1988

Track Listing:
1)Gothic Stone
2)Well of Souls, The
3)Codex Gidas
4)At The Gallows End
6)Marche Funebre
7)Dark Are the Veils of Death
8)Mourners Lament
10)Black Candles

This album does not have one weak song on it. My favorites are easily Gothic Stone, Samarithan, Dark Are The Veils Of Death and Bewitched. It is easy to listen to this album repetitiously throughout the day.

Easily one of my favorite discoveries in the past year.

Progressive, psychedelic, fusion-esque.

Get this.

Jake Newcomb - Good Morning, Good Day, Good Night

So I've finished my first 'EP' of sorts and decided to release it online for free.

It would mean a lot of people were to check it out. Over a hair of 10 minutes of instrumental music brought to you from my bedroom. I feel pretty good about it being my first release. Check it out and spread it around if you feel so inclined. Thanks.

Life Update - Things To Come...

Sometimes you’ve got to just make that leap. I knew that I would get myself back to Boston sooner than later, I’ve just been waiting for an opportunity to show itself to me. Well, it has. A friend of mine will be taking a trip to Israel for a month, and I will be filling his room in Brighton until he is back.

I’m taking time off of school to focus on what I really want in my life right now. I feel more than comfortable with my decision in doing so. My two-month stay in Boston over the summer of last year was everything I was looking for, and I need to feel those feelings again.

My stay will not only be for the month while I fill my friends room. I am only using that time to find a full-time job and hunt down my next apartment. I plan to be staying down there for as long as possible. Living and settling down there is the ideal. I want to thank all of my friends who have already offered their couches, rooms etc. in case of me needing them in the next month or so.

I’m packing bags now and w…

Modern Silent Cinema

A former Orono High School and Dr.Records employee with the name of Cullen Gallagher, has been busy for the past few years making music for his solo project that he calls 'Modern Silent Cinema'.
MSC is creative, instrumental music that really manages to echo around in your head for a while. 'Than Burning' is one of my favorites.

New album out soon.
